Who We Are

For those who don't know us, my name is Tinus Ehlers, and I first visited Australia from South Africa in 2009. I fell in love with Australia so much that I decided to migrate permanently and became an Australian citizen in 2015. Growing up, we used to drink tonic water to discourage mosquitoes, and as adults, Gin & Tonic became a popular drink of choice. I am the Director of the business and will wear many hats as we get everything in line and build the business. My partner, Levi Burns, is one of the founders and will assist me in applying for the relevant licenses, building our social media presence, and overseeing the finances. Levi grew up in Griffith, NSW, moved to Canberra for work, and then had the opportunity to work in Brisbane, which allowed us to relocate to a few acres and start the distillery journey.

Our Mission

Why Liquidus? Liquidus temperature (also abbreviated to TL, which just happens to be our initials) is essentially the temperature above which a material is completely liquid and the maximum temperature at which crystals can coexist. It is most commonly used in glass manufacturing to describe the ideal temperature range for creating quality glass, as crystallization in glass can reduce the quality of the end product. Similarly, the distillation process also has an ideal temperature range (between 76-82 degrees Celsius). Where are we up to? For those who know us well, you know we are not always the most patient. We are just about ready to apply for our ATO (Application for a License to Manufacture Excisable Products – Alcohol). This application is quite involved and requires us to have a clear plan for how we will make, store, pay excise, and sell products. It also necessitates having a premises/location, a full floorplan, and layout of this space, calibration certificates for our alcohol measuring devices, photos of the premises, insurance that covers the excise (alcohol tax) on damaged/lost/stolen products, and a comprehensive business plan. Once we receive the ATO application approval, we will then apply for the QLD Artisan Producer License. We cannot order or purchase a gin still until we are licensed. This entire process is expected to take about 12 months.
